ARISTOCRATS Maybe spurred on by the heaviness of the news these days, lots of designers decided to pump up the overindulgence in their Spring 2020 collections. What is style, after all, if not an escape from reality? While some gilded the lily in more wearable methods (see ruffles at Simone Rocha or the baroque blazer at Dries Van Noten, which was co-designed by Christian Lacroix ), other labels pressed the stylish impact to the extreme. Matty Bovan provided a dress with a shape so overemphasized that it may have emerged from the closet of Marie Antoinette herself; a comparable, extra-large shape was seen once again at Comme des Garçons while, at Alexander McQueen, Sarah Burton presented a collection that leaked with gold.
